The Right Reverend Alfred Charles Reid, BD, MEd., DD (Hon) was enthroned as the thirteenth Bishop of Jamaica in the Cathedral Church of St. Jago de la Vega on January 25, 2001. He succeeded the Right Reverend and Honourable Neville deSouza.

Bishop Reid was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay on the 26 July 1980 and held this position until he became the Diocesan. On Bishop deSouza’s retirement in September 2000 he assumed duties as Canonical Administrator of the Diocese and was elected Lord Bishop of Jamaica at a Special Synod and Elective Assembly held on December 12, 2000.

He was ordained a priest in 1961 and had served as curate at the St. James Parish Church 1960 – 1965, Rector, Vere Cure, 1967 – 1971, Rector of the Stony Hill Cure, 1971- 1978 and Chaplain of the Jamaica Defence Force

He hold the Bachelor of Divinity from the Episcopal Theological College, the Master’s in Education from Boston College and the Doctorate of Divinity (Honoris Causa) from the Episcopal Divinity School.

Kingston Region

The Right Reverend Robert Thompson, LTh., BTh., STM., DMin.

Bishop Thompson was elected on March 30,2005 at the synod and was consecrated on May 31,2005, at Kingston Parish Church. The sermon for the consecration was delivered by Rev Dr Kortright Davis (Professor at Howard University School of Religion). Bishop Thompson was ordained as a Deacon in 1973 and a priest in 1974 and served as Assistant Curate at St Mary the Virgin. He was appointed Rector of St Judes in 1980 and Rector of St Andrew in 1990. He serves on the board of Kingston College and is a council member of the Institute of Jamaica. He is also Chaplain of the Queens School and was appointed a Canon of the Cathedral in 2001.

Bishop Thompson gained the LTh from the United Theological College (1973), BTh from McGill University (1978),STM from Mcgill University (1979), DMin from Episcopal Divinity School (2004)

 

Mandeville Region

The Right Reverend Harold Benjamin Daniel, BSc.,BA, MEd.,DMin.

Bishop Daniel was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Mandeville on February 11, 2000 in the Mandeville Parish Church. He had previously been Rector of the St. Michael’s Cure, Kingston, a position he held from 1990. He had served as Rector of St. Ann’s Bay Cure, 1978 – 1990. He was a Church Army Captain 1960 – 1978 and Director of Youth for the Diocese, 1969 – 1978. In 1989 he was appointed a Hon. Canon of the Cathedral.










Montego Bay Region

The Right Reverend Dr. Howard Kingsley Ainsworth Gregory

Bishop Gregory was Consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay on 11th June 2002. He was Ordained Deacon in 1973 and a Priest in 1974.

His first appointment was Anglican Chaplain of the Mona Campus at the University of the West Indies, and later served as Chaplain and Lecturer at Church Teachers' College in Mandeville. He moved on to become Anglican Warden and Tutor at the UTCWI and was Priest-in-charge at the Golden Grove Cure in Jamaica. He was appointed Anglican Tutor and Lecturer in Pastoral Counselling at the UTCWI in 1986 and promoted to Deputy President in 1987, a position he held until his appointment as Suffragan Bishop.

Dr. Gregory holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Diploma in Ministerial Studies from the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI), the Master of Sacred Theology from Virginia Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Sacred Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary. He also holds a Diploma in Education from the UWI and a Master in Business Administration from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

The Right Reverend and Hon. Neville Wordsworth deSouza, O.J. LLD (Hon)
Bishop Neville deSouza retired as Bishop of Jamaica in September 2000 after serving in the position since November 1979. A Service organized by the Diocese to celebrate his Ministry was held at the Cathedral Church on October 8, 2000.

He had previously served as Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay from February 1973 until November 1979. Ordained a deacon in 1958 and a priest in 1959 he served as Priest-in-charge Porus 1958 – 1962, Rector Grange Hill, 1962 – 1966 and Rector May Pen Cure 1966 – 1973.

He is the recipient of many honours including the Hon. LL.D from the University of the West Indies and the Order of Jamaica (O.J.) from the Government of Jamaica in 1991.

William Arthur Murray
The Rt. Rev. William Murray was Ordained Deacon in 1950 and Priest in 1951. He was Assistant Master at Kingston College, and St. Jago High School, served as Priest-in-charge in the Lluidas Vale Cure and St. Thomas Ye Vale Cure. Between 1971-78 he was Principal of Church Teachers' College. In June 1976 he was Consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Mandeville, a position he held until his retirement in 1998.

He holds L.Th (Durham) - St. Peter's College 1950, A.K.C (London) - King's College 1954, B.D Union Theological Seminary 1962, M.A. - Columbia University.

Bishop Murray since his retirement, continues to conduct Retreats , Bible Study Groups, Teaches a group of Supplementary Ministry Students and assists in Services in the Region as requested by the Bishop of Mandeville and Clergy of the Region.
