Rev. Dr. Howard Kingsley Ainsworth GregoryAt the 132nd Annual Synod of the Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in the Province of the West Indies, the Rev. Dr. Howard Kingsley Ainsworth Gregory, was on April 3rd 2002, elected the third Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay.

He will have Episcopal oversight of Anglican Churches in the parishes of St. James, St. Ann, Westmoreland, Trelawny and Hanover.

Dr. Gregory holds the Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Diploma in Ministerial Studies from the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI), the Master of Sacred Theology from Virginia Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Sacred Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary. He also holds a Diploma in Education from the UWI and the Master in Business Administration from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

The newly-elected Suffragan Bishop brings a wealth of administrative and theological expertise to the post. He was ordained a Deacon in 1973 and a Priest in 1974. He has had an outstanding career as administrator, teacher and pastoral counsellor. His first appointment was Anglican Chaplain of the Mona Campus at the University of the West Indies, and he later served as Chaplain and Lecturer at Church Teachers' College in Mandeville. He moved on to become Anglican Warden and Tutor at the UTCWI and was Priest-in-charge at the Golden Grove Cure in Jamaica. He was appointed Anglican Tutor and Lecturer in Pastoral Counselling at UTCWI in 1986 and promoted to Deputy President in 1987. He is the longest-serving President of the UTCWI, having been elected to that post in 1990. He also served as Visiting Professor at the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, USA in 1994, and in 2001, was Visiting Professor/Dean at the General Theological Seminary in New York.

The Suffragan Bishop-elect has extensive clinical experience and a strong background in pastoral counselling. Much of this work has been in the hospital setting, providing supportive service to staff, patients and families on medical and surgical floors. He has worked in the Intensive Care Units, Trauma Units and Emergency Room, as well as in the Oncology Unit. Most of his therapeutic work has been in a Counselling Centre and the Psychiatric Unit, where he has functioned as a member of the therapeutic team, doing one-to-one therapy and leading group therapy.

Dr. Gregory has a very good record of public service. He was elected President of the Jamaica Council of Churches in 2000 and serves as a Member of the National Council on Education and Board Member of the National Religious Media Company Limited (LOVE 101). Since 1990, he has served as Editor of the Caribbean Journal of Religious Studies. Other positions held include being Chairman of the Teachers' Service Commission

He also has a strong academic background and a number of publications, dealing with topics such as "The Pastor's Spirituality", "A Parish-based Approach to Bereavement", "Stress in Family Life" and "The Emotional Disorders of the Aging".

The Rev. Dr. Gregory is married to Charmaine and they have two adult children.
