Christian Education

This division has the responsibility of challenging our members young and old to see the necessity of being able to think theologically about life so that they may strengthen the quality of their relationship with God and each other.

To accomplish this task the division seeks to coordinate the work that needs to be done in the areas of Sunday School Ministry, Christian Education in Schools and Colleges, Family Life Education and relationships, Adult Christian Education.

During the course of the year the following are some of the programmes/activities and events that have been planned:

(i)                 The Production of a new Curriculum

A new curriculum entitled “Sharing God’s Love” is being produced.  This curriculum is lectionary based.  It will be a topic at the Sunday School workshops along with the ‘Prayerbook for Children’

See Calendar of Events.

(ii)               To Promote Chaplaincy in Schools and Colleges

Chaplaincy is an integral part of our high schools and so the division will continue its work with Chaplains as well as collaborate with the schools division in seeking to promote opportunities for Christian Education.  This will be done in collaboration with Principals, Presidents of the P.T.A. and teachers of Religious Education.  A similar effort is to be carried out with our preparatory schools.

(iii)             To Promote an Interest on Theology

The Division seeks to carry out this effort in two ways.  Firstly by encouraging Deaneries and cures to become centers of theological discussion and education.  Therefore the Deanery Christian Education programme that is being done in St. Thomas and Portmore will be expanded, the Alpha Programme will move into new cures in the Deaneries of St. Andrew and Clarendon and the issue of bereavement and the approach of the Church to this issue will be examined.

(iv)              Family Life Education

The division intends to facilitate a culture that allows our church to be viewed as a place that supports and educates families and persons seeking to improve the quality of their relationships.  This is being done within the context of recognizing that relationships is an important issue to everyone and the role of the Church is to promote healthy relationships within families, marriages and friendships.  During the year there will be a Marriage Enrichment Programme.  It is the division’s intention to organize workshops on relationships both for persons who are contemplating marriages and persons who see themselves remaining in the single estate of life.
